The Board of Trustees at El Camino College have expressed on multiple occasions that they lack important details for all Consent Calendar items both involving and not involving money.

New security cameras approved and installed to enhance campus safety

New cameras installed at the Small Business Development Center and an updated intrusion alarm system were approved by the El Camino College Board of Trustees on Oct. 21, resulting in a $102,032 purchase.
Quotes for the cameras were $19,820.24, while a continental computer connected to these cameras were $18,904.03.

Incidents involving male student stalking female Japanese students under investigation

The El Camino College Police Department is investigating two incidents involving a male ECC student stalking female students of Japanese descent.
According to a safety advisory sent on Oct. 15, the student is described as a man in his late-twenties, with dark-colored hair and dark-colored eyes. Additionally, the student self-identifies as Black and Japanese.

Students, faculty voice their support for Palestine after first anniversary of Israel-Hamas war

El Camino College students, faculty and people from outside the college came together to march and speak in support of Palestine on campus on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
The protest in support of Palestine was a student-run “Call to Action” that encouraged anyone to speak from noon to 3 p.m. It was the second on-campus protest regarding the Israel-Hamas war since May 21, 2024.

Warriors Men’s Soccer cruise to a 5-1 victory over the Comets

The men’s soccer team of the El Camino College Warriors continued their winning streak to four wins after defeating the Palomar Comets 5-1 at home on Friday, Sept. 13.
Opening up the game were Warriors making efficient passes, leaving Palomar Comets struggling to keep up.

Phishing scheme under investigation after a fake El Camino College website surfaces

The El Camino College Police Department and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department are investigating a phishing scheme involving a fraudulent website distributing fake checks that appear to be from the Financial Aid Office.
David Brown, the assistant director for financial aid and basic needs, said there have been about 15 fraudulent checks reported.

Details on the violent altercation at an El Camino parking lot remain unknown

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating the Aug. 9 stabbing incident that occurred in an El Camino College parking lot, leaving one man dead and his mother in critical condition.
The man involved is a former ECC student who leaped off the fifth floor of parking Lot H and died at the scene after stabbing his mother in a violent altercation that left her in critical condition.

Campus vending machines not working, students say

This is what the vending machines near Café Camino say yet the products being offered can be seen through the glass.
Some of the vending machines have been malfunctioning, resulting in some students going out of their way to avoid some vending machines.
The Union started checking the vending machines on Feb. 21 and found some of the machines are still malfunctioning as of May 2.
